Creative Profile – Audrey Mistele

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of the great ladies of Chatham Kent.

Audrey Mistele was an instrumental force in the formation of the Thames Art Gallery and a passionate supporter of the arts. Not only did she bring her enthusiasm and infectious smile to community art events, she was also quick to volunteer her time and her many skills. As a docent she brought insight and enthusiasm, animating exhibitions with style and flair. Audrey was a firm believer in the power of creativity and organized bus tours, lecture series, fundraising campaigns and chaired the Gallery Advisory Committee for many years. She was also a donor to the gallery’s permanent collection and personally responsible for bringing important examples of Chatham Kent’s artistic heritage back to the area, ensuring that it will be preserved for generations to come.

In 2013, Studio 2 at the Cultural Centre was renamed the Audrey Mistele Art Studio. A fitting honour for someone who believed so firmly in the power of creativity and the promise it holds for everyone. That legacy will live on.

We will miss you.
