Creative Profile – Mary Ellen Herder

 

It’s 2024! To start the year off, for our January creative profile we’d like to introduce you to Mary Ellen Herder.

Professional Actress, Director, Writer, Acting Coach, SpFX makeup artist and Founder and Director of Take A Bow Productions, TAB KIDS and Tab SpFX.

Mary Ellen has an extensive background in theatre and film. Some of her training includes studying under the direction of Ginger Howard Friedman-New York/Toronto; Michael Caruana Bongo Productions-Toronto; National Institute of Broadcasting; On-Camera workshops with The Disney Institute–Walt Disney World, Ryerson University and Stan Winston Character Arts.

In 1999 she developed and showcased Comedy Improv Nights to Wallaceburg Little Theatre. Also, that year along with her husband Robert and Cherie McGuire established Take A Bow Productions a not-for-profit theatre training company to provide opportunities, using active-learning methods for all ages. The methods used in the programs embrace drama, SpFX makeup design, Blacklight dance, and visual arts, without obscuring their uniqueness. The programs and productions teach the value of continual effort to achieve excellence and the concrete rewards of self-confidence and artistic accomplishment.

All time was donated to provide professional training and performance opportunities for all ages at affordable costs.

Mary Ellen is a writer and developer of short stories, drama curriculum for Education Through Drama, Drama Workshops and training, programs and Spfx Makeup training. She has written, produced, directed, and performed in numerous theatre and film productions. She has received 21 Showmanship Awards with Famous Players Ltd. and numerous web awards for Take A Bow Productions and TAB KIDS.

As a voice-over artist, she has voiced industrials, commercials, animations and audio theatre including voicing the role of the Evil Queen in Voices In The Wind Audio Theatre’s audio adaptation of Snow White; the Wicked Witch of the West adaptation of Wizard Of Oz; and Crazy Marge and Rita Poirie in The Geminus Conspiracy distributed by Blackstone Audio.

As an actor in theatre and film, and SpFX makeup artist she has numerous credits to her name. She is currently working on the film Long Ride Home with JX3 Media Productions.
